Opportunities for learning and practicing hospital autopsy remain relatively limited. Consequently, resident and attending pathologists are expected to acquire competence in autopsy pathology with less experience than ever before. To meet this challenge, veteran autopsy pathologists should provide efficient and reliable educational resources that help learners prepare for, perform, and report high-quality autopsies for the families, clinicians, and institutions they serve.

“The Autopsy Book” is a continually updated learning resource hosted in a freely accessible, digital format with a searchable interface. This resource is beneficial to medical students, pathology residents, and attending pathologists who engage with autopsy practice at any level of learning. “The Autopsy Book” hopes to transform medical autopsy education from a largely oral tradition (e.g., “this is how I was taught to do it and so I’m teaching it to you”) to a written legacy through codifying knowledge and best practices in autopsy pathology. If you are a medical student, resident, or attending pathologist interested in contributing, please contact us.
